The Black Forest is a region of unspoiled forest that covers an area of 200,000 acres with about 5,000 households. The area is very attractive for people who desire livestock and require home with acreage. While some areas of Black Forest real estate on the west are developed planned communities, like Fox Run, the balance is ranchettes of five to ten acres and larger ranch parcels. Ranchers in the Black Forest area raise everything from Arabian horses to South American Llamas. Black Forest is the largest cohesive residential area in the region. It extends north of Colorado Springs for over 20 miles and east from Monument for about 15 miles. Downtown Black Forest is located at the intersection of Black Forest and Shoup Roads and consists of a post office, a general store, the volunteer fire department, a community center and a few small businesses. The western and northern portions are near Monument. The Black Forest Regional Park is within minutes and includes a playing field, playground equipment, tennis courts, hiking trails and pavilions.
