To the south of Colorado Springs lies Fountain Valley, consisting of the three communities of Security, Widefield and Fountain.
Fountain is one of the main commercial centers for the area with a Wal-Mart SuperCenter, and Applebee's, several fast food options and
many small eateries. Fountain is the oldest community in the Pikes Peak region, founded in 1859 and incorporated in 1903. It grew
out of what was then one of the major agricultural and livestock-raising centers in Colorado. Large sections of land outside town are used for
breeding horses and cattle. Many small parcels are also available for ranch setups. Despite the established age of the area, there are
still many builders in the area putting up new homes. These are some of the most affordable new homes in the entire Pikes Peak Region.
Often military families move to the Fountain area because of easy access to Fort Carson via Gate 20.
