To the south of Colorado Springs lies Fountain Valley, consisting of the three communities of Security, Widefield and Fountain. Widefield is mainly a residential area, but surrounding areas offer shopping, restaurants and other businesses. Many of the homes in the Widefield area were built in the 60s and 70s, so neighborhoods are mature and established. Here you'll see people from all walks of life including, trades and professionals, blue-collar and clerical jobs, agriculture and the military. Because of the easy access to Fort Carson, many soldiers and their families choose to live in the Fountain Valley Area. The Appletree Golf Course serves the region, with reasonable greens fees and good access.
