Mountain Shadows was planned and developed as an upscale residential community that offers a wide range of architectural styles in a diverse foothills setting. Situated in the foothills just north of Garden of the Gods, the home sites, at elevations from 6,400 to 7,100 feet, encompass pine-covered hills, mesas spotted with native oak with ridges of scenic rock outcropping. Home sites feature a variety of views, from long-range vistas of the Black Forest and the eastern plains, to a cityscape with a spectacular array of evening lights, to the Garden of the Gods rock formations and the towering backdrop of the Pike National Forest.

A linear park trail system winds through the neighborhoods, making the natural terrain readily available to pedestrians. Hundreds of additional acres of recreational opportunities are available in nearby Garden of the Gods Park and Ute Valley Park.

Convenience is one the more important aspects of living in the Mountain Shadows neighborhoods. A large MCI-Worldcom software facility is located in the community, and other major high technology and manufacturing business locations like Hewlett Packard are only minutes away.

Mountain Shadows students attend Coronado High School, Holmes Junior High School and Chipeta Elementary School, all in District 11.

At the base of Mountain Shadows many recent home developments are located along Centennial Boulevard and Ute Valley Park. Most of these homes are situated in the valley between ridge lines and are in the lower to medium price range.
